Dreams

Dream Blog

‘All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.’
All dreams matter, whether you’re five or eighty-five. It all depends on what you do with them. Some dreams may appear to be unrealistic, but if they were all terminated because of that one word, many ideas wouldn’t be explored and accomplished today. A lot of us have one common fear, failure. But if we don’t fail, we won’t learn from our mistakes, nor would we have the chance of success. The chance of success is only available if the chance to fail is also present. The decisions we make create us, if we knew everything was going to work out, we probably wouldn’t be afraid of the unknown. This could be looked at as a positive thing or a negative thing. The fear of the unknown helps us keep our imagination, yet keeps some of us from putting in the efforts to gain what we want in life. Everyone in the world has a dream, whether it is the homeless man on the street that puts all of his earnings towards a lottery ticket; to the little girl who crosses her fingers at 11:11 every day, closing her eyes tightly, wishing to be a princess; to the young orphan boy from Zimbabwe, wishing to have a family. All dreams have significance; it is when we lose our drive to dream that we lose our drive to wake up each morning. I dream to be successful. This is very common for human beings; we want wealth, health and a family. This is a very stereotypical statement; there isn’t only one version of success. Does it mean that you have reached success if you are sitting alone by your fireplace, an early retiree, well off? What good is money if you have nobody to share it with? Money can buy you things that make you believe you’re happy, definitely. The truth is, it can’t buy you love or true friendship, having those two main things are my definition of success – that is what I would consider “living the dream”. I dream of travelling and learning things for myself – making my own mistakes, helping others and finding out who I want to be. Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream; a dream for his four little children to one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character, a dream that one day his nation would rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: that all men are created equal, a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit together at the table of brotherhood.
